The idea of recycling is certainly not a new idea, and over the years more and more products which can be recycled have become identified. It is no longer acceptable to waste anything, it’s not good for the planet and it’s not good for your pocket. Here are a few ideas of products which can be recycled, and some ways for you to do your bit. It doesn’t have to be difficult to recycle products, and with just a little forethought recycling can simply become a way of life.
- Batteries are one of the products which can be recycled. You will find many battery recycling centers these days in shops, offices and schools, and if you can’t find anywhere in your area for recycling batteries, then contact the manufacturer for a list of locations. Next time you buy batteries, why not buy rechargeable ones? They are environmentally friendly and cut down the need to recycle batteries in the future.
- There are many building products which can be recycled. Bricks and wood can all be reused, and many people these days prefer the aesthetic appeal of pre-used bricks and timber, so recycling building products is not only good for the environment but very fashionable too.
- One of the most common products which can be recycled is clothes. Many recycling centers have clothing bins, and children’s clothes in particular are always in demand, they just grow so darn quick. Why not start recycling your children’s clothes among your friends?
- Electrical items are products which can be recycled; in fact, in many countries there is legislation to say that you must recycle these products. They can be returned to the manufacturer or taken to a special recycling center for disposal.
- Many recycling centers have bins for glass, and you are often requested to separate clear from colored glass. You can also recycle in your own home, and re-use bottles and jars instead of throwing away and replacing with new.

- There are now millions of out of date and unused cell phones in the world and these are just another example of products which can be recycled. Companies even offer cash for your old cell phone, which is better than leaving it in the back of a drawer for years.
- Paper was one of the first products to be recycled, and recycling centers accept all types of paper, but many like you to divide it into types, eg. Newspapers, magazines, cardboard, office paper, directories and catalogues. By buying goods made from recycled paper you can help out from both directions.
- Plastics are another type of products which can be recycled, and although there are very many different types and grades of plastic, recycling centers will generally accept most of them.
This is just a small list of the most common products which can be recycled. It is estimated that around 32% of total waste is currently recycled in the USA and only around 20% in the UK. If everybody does their part, we can all help to reduce the amount of trash piling up around the world.
